Wanderer’s Role and Skills

The Wanderer aka Scaramouche is a DPS Anemo character released in patch 3.3 with Faruzan. Based on gameplay and talent description, he looks to be an on-field DPS somewhat similar to Heizou. His Normal Attacks (NA) shoots out windblades dealing Anemo damage while his Charged Attacks causes an AOE damage. His Elemental Skill (E) makes him leap into the air and hover. Subsequently his Normal and Charged Attacks damage and AOE are increase. Charged Attacks also no longer consume stamina. His Burst (Q) causes a vacuum dealing damage and gives him buff depending on the element it comes in contact with. You can read more about Wanderer’s talents here!

How To Build Wanderer

Upon released, the Wanderer came out with a new artifact domain containing an Anemo set designed to buff Anemo user using Normal and Charged Attacks. The Desert Pavilion set is pretty much his and Heizou’s best artifact set due to the fact that they both utilize a mixture of Normal and Charged attacks. You can read more about the artifact set here!

With the exception of the type of artifact set, his build path should follow a very traditional DPS route in which you’ll wanna prioritize Crit Rate / DMG above anything else. Due to his similarity with Heizou’s playstyle, both build should be very similar. The only exception is that Wanderer is full on traditional DPS build so you don’t wanna build him for EM like Heizou’s EM build.

Artifact set

Desert Pavilion Chronicle (4)

By far his best set as the 4 piece would boost the speed and damage from his Normal and Charged Attacks which is a huge portion of Wanderer’s DPS source.

Shimenawa's Reminiscence FlowerShimenawa’s Reminiscence (4)

Provides the 2nd highest DPS potential for Wanderer but at the cost of requiring energy to proc the 4 piece set effect.

Echoes of an Offering FlowerEchoes of an Offering (4)

Technically Wanderer’s 3rd best option but due to its effect being tied to players ping, it is not recommended unless you have a ping~20ms.

Viridescent Venerer Flower+15% Anemo (2) AND
[Gladiator's Finale Feather+18% ATK (2) OR +15% Anemo (2)]

Decent endgame set that is easier to acquire for many players as it is likely that you’ll already have both pieces of each set already. An okay option if no better option exists.

Viridescent Venerer FlowerViridescent Venerer (4)

A decent choice if he is in a team with strong off-field DPS like Fischl. With this set, Wanderer’s role is simply there as an on-field driver meaning that he job is to proc RES shred of whichever element his team is using.

Weapon

Tulaytullah’s Remembrance (5✩)

This weapon’s maximum buff of 48% Normal Attack DMG with its Crit DMG and high base attack substat makes it an uncontested BiS for Wanderer.

Skyward Atlas (5✩)

For team without Bennett, this weapon pulls ahead of Lost Prayer (5✩) due to its high ATK%. Otherwise, the opposite is true.

Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds (5✩)

Wanderer is one of the few characters that can utilize its stacks mechanic. If you’re running Bennett in the team, this is his 2nd BiS option.

Widsith (4✩)

A good option for Wanderer as he can utilize the secondary Crit DMG stat and almost every buff from this weapon except the Elemental Mastery buff.

Dodoco Tales (4✩)

A decent weapon on Wanderer as long as you use a Normal Attack (NA) in between every 5-6 Charged Attack (CA). This ensures the weapon buff is consistently proc.

Solar Pearl (4✩)

Although it would seem the weapon is perfect for Wanderer, it falls behind other F2P option especially in high refinements. Nevertheless it still does decent damage and makes up for an easier Wanderer build with its Crit Rate substat.

Talent

C0-C1

Normal Attack (NA) > Elemental Skill (E) > Burst (Q)

C2-C6

Normal Attack (NA) ≥ Burst (Q) > Skill (E)

Wanderer’s NA will take precedent over anything else as that is his main source of damage. At C2 onwards his Q gets substantially buffed so it will takever his E.

Main stat & substat

Sand: ATK%
Goblet: Anemo DMG%
Circlet: Crit Rate / DMG

  1. Crit Rate / DMG
  2. ATK%
  3. Flat ATK
  4. Energy Recharge

His role is similar to any traditional DPS character making his build pretty easy where you’ll wanna look for Crit Rate / DMG above anything else. There is no reason to build him for ER at C0 as investing in ER to Burst every rotation will result in DPS loss. Its better to focus on Crit or ATK instead.

At C2 and above, you’ll wanna aim for ~160 ER. The exact number will depend on whether you’re running Faruzan or triple Anemo in your team.
