Layla’s Role and Skills

Layla functions as a off-field DPS character who also provide support capabilities with her shield. Her Elemental Skill (E) gives a shield based on her HP while also fires homing cryo projectiles onto enemies. Her Burst (Q) creates an AOE where enemies within will get cryo damage while also charging and firing her E projectiles faster. She is pretty much a lesser version of Xingqiu rainswords mixed with Diona.

How To Build Layla

Artifact set

Tenacity of Millelity (4): With a short E cooldown it is possible to maintain a good uptime on the 20% ATK and 30% Shield Strength buff. In fact, it looks like Layla kit is designed to comfortably utilize the ToTM (4) set.
Noblesse Oblige (4): Second best option as Layla can maintain a healthy Burst uptime making her a great candidate to provide her team with the Noblesse ATK buff.
Blizzard Strayer (4): As she is a Cryo character it is no surprise that the Blizzard Strayer (4) would be her Best in Slot (BiS) option if she was to go for an off-field DPS role. With this set as long as the enemy is affected by Cryo, she’ll get a 20% extra Crit Rate and another 20% if they are frozen.
Emblem of Severed Fate (4): EoSF (4) firstly, it helps alleviate her ER requirements and then gives a damage boost onto her Burst based on her total ER. Considering that her off-field damage is a crucial part of her kit, this set is a strong endgame option.

Weapon

Primordial Jade Cutter (5✩): Layla’s best 5-star weapon as it boosts her HP which gives her stronger shield and damage while also providing Crit Rate.
Favonius Sword (4✩): Layla’s best 4-star weapon in terms of utility as it provides massive ER for her and her team.

Talent

Elemental Skill (E) > Burst (Q)

E is more crucial as it provides her with shield and damage.

Main stat and substat (shield support)

As her shield multipliers are high and dependent on her HP, you’ll wanna stack up on as much HP as you can. Similar to Zhongli, you’ll wanna focus on the shielding that she provides with her E above anything else. This includes forgoing any damage from her stars as it isn’t that high anyway.

Main stat and substat (off-field DPS)

Layla’s build is actually pretty similar to any DPS with the exception of swapping of ATK for HP. You’ll wanna focus on stacking HP as much as possible as her shield and damage scale on that. Secondly, since she also functions as an off-field DPS, Crit Rate & DMG will also be a priority. Lastly, just like any character her Burst is an important factor of her kit so don’t forget on maintaining good uptime by having good Energy Regeneration. To recap on Layla’s build,

Layla’s Constellations

C6: If you’re thinking of building her into a high off-field DPS cryo character this is the constellation you should aim for. It’s pretty much a huge jump for damage from her E and Q.
C4: A substantial boost in damage for characters utilizing Normal and Charged Attacks. Although niche, certain characters like Hutao who are already running Hydro can potentially benefit from Charged Attack buff + Melt + Shield.
C2: A simple solution for Layla’s ER problem. Yes she has a good uptime on her E but given the rate of how fast her E stars actually shoots, her C2 is simply okay and not overpowered.

Gameplay Mechanics

AOE stars DMG: Although very small, Layla’s stars do in fact do AOE damage. Utilize her with strong CC characters such as Venti to maximize each stars damage.
E provides Shield & DMG: One of the very few characters that can both provide shielding and off-field damage from her E on top of a near 100% uptime. Take advantage by running her with ToTM (4) as Layla can effectively proc the 4 piece effects of ATK and Shield Strength buff.

Solving Layla’s Problems

• Very slow energy regeneration. Particles from E does not generate immediately, instead need to wait until projectiles charges, homes and hit onto enemy.^{Run with Favonius Bow}
• Very small AOE capabilities in her kit. Unless the enemies are tightly grouped, its pretty much single target. ^{Possible a good replacement for Ayaka in Morgana comp?}
• Still no info on total particle generated from E ^{1-4 cryo particles but not instant. Usually around 4 according to testers}
