Mona Omen Extension Mechanics

Introduction

Mona’s Burst (Stellaris Phantasm) apply both Illusory Bubble and Omen onto enemies in a large AOE. When Illusory Bubble is active, there is an obvious constellation-like marking on that enemy. Once damage is applied onto said enemy, the Illusory Bubble would burst dealing damage as well as starting the Omen countdown. If no outside source burst the Illusory Bubble, the bubble would burst itself after 8 seconds. Omen is basically a debuff applied onto the enemy that grants a damage bonus until its duration ends.

How do we extend Omen?

Its important to note that although Omen countdown only starts once Illusory Bubble burst, Omen is actually applied the moment Mona’s Burst was cast. This means that as long as the Illusory Bubble is not burst, Omen duration can be a maximum of;

8 Illusory Bubble duration + 5 Omen duration =13s

Sounds easy enough but how do we not burst the bubble? Which brings us to the second most important point, attack that does not cause poise damage or stagger the enemy will not burst the bubble. This explains why Mona is so valuable in a Perma-Freeze comp.

Extending Omen with Freeze

Remember that Mona’s Burst will apply wet once cast. When you apply cryo first and then use Mona’s Burst, the affected enemy will be frozen with the Illusory Bubble still intact. An important frozen mechanic to know is that you cannot stagger an enemy in a frozen state. That means a frozen enemy with Mona’s bubble intact will actually protect the bubble from bursting. So any kind of attack that does not remove the frozen state of the enemy will continue to;

  • Deal damage
  • Not burst the bubble
  • Benefit from Omen buff and its full duration

Apply cryo > Mona’s Burst > Attack that does not remove frozen state

Stagger Resistant Enemies

Remember that Illusory Bubble only burst when enemies are staggered. Hence attacks on certain enemies such as Kairagi or Mirror Maiden cannot burst Mona’s Illusory Bubble if you’re to apply it during their second phase. The same also applies to enemies with Elemental Shields such as Abyss Lectors, Heralds and Mages. Finally enemy types with Elemental Armor such as Stonehide or Frostarm Lawachurl also share the same mechanic. As long as you’re to apply Mona’s Burst during these enemies unstaggered phase, the bubble would run its full 8s duration before bursting.
